Schuylkill County residents are being asked to come together on Saturday, October 25, 2025, to help Sheriff Joseph Groody reach a major milestone in his final National Drug Take Back Day before retirement.
Since launching the county’s drug collection initiative in 2010, Sheriff Groody and local police departments have collected a total of 12,047 pounds of expired, unused, or unwanted medications. The only year no collection was held was in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With just under 1,000 pounds to go, Sheriff Groody hopes this fall’s event will push the program past the 13,000-pound mark before he retires on January 1, 2026.
“This program has always been about keeping our homes and children safe,” Sheriff Groody said. “We are asking the community to once again join us in making this last collection a success.”
The Drug Take Back Day will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at multiple collection sites throughout Schuylkill County. Sheriff Groody, his deputies, and local police officers will be on hand to accept medications for safe disposal.
Residents are reminded that syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs will not be accepted. Liquid medications, such as cough syrups, should remain sealed in their original containers with caps tightened to prevent leaks.
Sheriff Groody encouraged all county residents to take part in this important effort. “Let’s make this last one count and reach that 13,000-pound goal together,” he said.
