Newly Remodeled Tamaqua Walmart Reopens with Fresh Look, Community Celebration



The Walmart Supercenter in Tamaqua officially reopened its doors Friday morning following a major remodeling project that focused on creating a more modern, convenient, and customer-centered shopping experience.
Shoppers were welcomed into the updated store at 35 Plaza Drive with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and celebration that highlighted Walmart’s continued investment in the local community. The event featured promotions, giveaways, and entertainment, including lively performances by the Marian Catholic High School Band and cheerleaders, which brought extra excitement to the grand reopening.

“This remodel reflects our commitment to enhancing the shopping experience, with quality products at everyday low prices,” said Store Manager Samantha Somma. “We now have a Dunkin’! I’d really like to thank our dedicated associates and our store leadership teams for their exceptional efforts throughout the renovation.”

Store Upgrades and New Features

The Tamaqua Supercenter has been transformed inside and out with several new updates designed to improve the customer experience:
  • Fresh Look & Feel: New paint, fixtures, signage, and energy-efficient LED lighting for a brighter, more inviting atmosphere.
  • Expanded Aisles: A redesigned layout to provide more space and easier navigation for shoppers.
  • New Signage and Landscaping: Updated interior and exterior signage, an expanded parking lot, and enhanced landscaping.
  • Pharmacy Enhancements: A new private consult room and delivery services to meet growing healthcare needs.
  • Employee Upgrades: A newly designed employee lounge providing a more comfortable workspace for associates.
Community Support and Recognition

As part of the celebration, Walmart underscored its ongoing commitment to local causes by presenting $7,000 in community grants to area nonprofits.

The recipients included:
  • Bridge 127 – $1,000
  • Children’s Miracle Network at Geisinger – $1,000
  • Make-A-Wish Schuylkill – $1,000
  • Miss Greater Hazleton Scholarship Program – $500
  • Penn-Kidder Ministerium After School Program – $1,000
  • Safer Streets for Tamaqua’s Little Feet – $1,000
  • St. Jerome’s After School Program – $1,000
  • We Agape You, Inc. – $500
The store also honored 14 “Day 1” associates who have been with Walmart since the Tamaqua store first opened. Those recognized included Brenda Hebelka, Charlaine Kolbush, Dave Eroh, Deborah Potter, Constance Shilko, Derick Brobst, Lori Rusbarsky, Mikey Nace, Nadine Wolfe, Paula Steirer, Rebecca Circosta, Sandy Breiner, Sara Haldeman, and Sandra Schenke.
