A new Dunkin’ location has officially opened inside the St. Clair Walmart, creating an unusual situation for the community, which has already been served by a Dunkin’ just outside the store for nearly two decades.
The longtime Dunkin’ in the Coal Creek Commerce Center, located at 400 Terry Rich Blvd., has been operating since 2008 and is owned by Bowers Donuts Inc., a family-run franchise with deep roots in Schuylkill County. With the Walmart location now open, Bowers Donuts took to Facebook to clear up confusion and remind customers that the two locations are not connected.
In their post, Bowers Donuts thanked customers for supporting their Pottsville and Saint Clair locations, saying, “Pottsville and Saint Clair run on Dunkin’, and we run for you!”
The company emphasized that the Dunkin’ inside Walmart is not affiliated with Bowers Donuts or any of their locally owned Dunkin’ stores. They urged customers who use the Dunkin’ mobile app to double-check the location before submitting orders to ensure they are selecting the independently operated Saint Clair Dunkin’ in the Coal Creek Commerce Center.
“Unfortunately, we are unable to fix, adjust, or replace any orders that are sent to or prepared by the Walmart Dunkin’,” the post stated, noting that the two locations do not share systems or order platforms.
Bowers Donuts also highlighted what sets their locations apart, reminding customers that only their franchise locations offer the fresh-made donuts and customer service they have been known for in the region for nearly 50 years.
While having two Dunkin’ locations just steps apart may seem unusual, both stores will now serve customers coming through the busy retail corridor. Still, the situation has sparked conversation online, as loyal customers sort out which Dunkin’ they are supporting when they grab their morning coffee.
For now, the “Battle of the Dunkins” appears to be more about branding and clarity than competition — but one thing is certain: St. Clair residents have no shortage of options when it comes to coffee and donuts.
