Phone Scam Leads to $2,500 Theft in Schuylkill County's North Union Township


Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a theft by deception case after a Schuylkill County woman was scammed out of $2,500 earlier this week.
Accordng to a public information release from the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the incident occurred on March 3, 2026, around 2:40 p.m. in North Union Township.

Troopers said a 55-year-old woman from Nuremberg reported receiving a phone call from an unknown individual who claimed to be associated with the Philadelphia Federal Credit Union.

During the call, the victim was persuaded to provide her banking information to the caller. Authorities say that shortly afterward, $2,500 was transferred from the victim’s bank account.

State police classified the incident as theft by deception and continue to investigate. No suspects have been identified at this time.

Troopers are reminding residents to be cautious when receiving unsolicited phone calls requesting personal or banking information. Financial institutions typically do not request sensitive account details over the phone.
