Founded in 1902 as the Cressona Cornet Band, the ensemble remains one of the region’s oldest continuously operating community bands. The group is made up of musicians of all ages and backgrounds who share a commitment to preserving the community band tradition.
The band is led by Principal Conductor Craig N. Shoener and Associate Conductor John P. Shoener. Their performances feature a wide-ranging repertoire, including marches, patriotic selections, classical works, overtures, show tunes, and contemporary concert band pieces.
As part of this season, the band will incorporate a musical tribute recognizing the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. The group will also honor longtime member F. John Tucci, who is celebrating his 70th season with the band after joining in 1956 and continuing to perform in the trombone section.
The Cressona Band performs throughout the year at concerts, parades, and community events across the region, with regular appearances in communities such as Schuylkill Haven, Tamaqua, Minersville, Ashland, Pottsville, and surrounding areas.

Call for Musicians
The band is currently welcoming new members. High school students, college musicians, and adults with prior band experience are encouraged to join.
The first rehearsal for the 2026 season is scheduled for Monday, May 4, 2026. Rehearsals will be held weekly on Mondays from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the John F. Potlunas Cressona Band Hall, located at 12 Wilson Street in Cressona.
