Schuylkill Chamber Hosts Second Annual Schuylkill County National Civics Bee Regional Competition

The Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce hosted the second annual National Civics Bee Regional Competition on Thursday, April 9, 2026, bringing together 20 middle school students from across the region for a live, in-person academic event focused on civic knowledge and community engagement.
The competition tested students on their understanding of government, critical thinking skills, and ability to apply civic principles to real-world issues. Participants competed for cash prizes totaling up to $1,000, along with the opportunity to advance to the state level.

Following two rounds of multiple-choice questions, the top five students advanced as finalists based on their scores. Each finalist then presented ideas aimed at improving and strengthening their communities, building upon essays submitted earlier in the competition process. The presentations were followed by a live question-and-answer session with a panel of judges.

At the conclusion of the event, three students were named winners:
  • First Place ($1,000): Heidi M.
  • Second Place ($500): Emma S.
  • Third Place ($250): Dylan R.

All three winners will move on to the Pennsylvania State National Civics Bee Competition, which will be hosted by the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry at Penn State University on Friday, June 12, 2026.

Event organizers noted that the competition continues to grow in participation and impact, encouraging young students to engage in civics and take an active role in their communities.

The cash prizes were made possible through support from several sponsors, including CACL Financial, Nativity B.V.M. High School, Rotary Club of Pottsville, Pottsville Free Public Library, Walmart, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, and the Schuylkill Chamber Foundation.
