More Schuylkill County Police Departments Join Federal 287(g) Program

Several additional law enforcement agencies in Schuylkill County have joined the federal 287(g) program since Skook News last reported on the agreements in March.

According to the latest update on Friday, May 8, 2026, the following departments have now signed agreements to participate in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) 287(g) Task Force Model program:

  • Kline Township Police Department — signed April 27, 2026
  • Orwigsburg Borough Police Department — signed March 25, 2026
  • Schuylkill Haven Borough Police Department — signed April 5, 2026
  • Frackville Borough Police Department — signed March 17, 2026

These departments join agencies previously identified by Skook News in March, which included:

  • Mahanoy Township Police Department — signed February 17, 2026
  • Shenandoah Borough Police Department — signed February 25, 2026
  • Pine Grove Borough Police Department — signed February 27, 2026
  • Mahanoy City Borough Police Department
  • Schuylkill County Sheriff’s Office

Under the federal 287(g) program, local law enforcement officers receive training and authorization to assist ICE with certain immigration enforcement duties while carrying out their normal policing responsibilities.

The agreements listed for Schuylkill County agencies are all categorized under the “Task Force Model,” which allows participating officers to question individuals about their immigration status during lawful stops or arrests and coordinate with ICE when violations are suspected.

As of Friday’s update, eight law enforcement agencies in Schuylkill County are now listed as participating in the program.

Several of the agencies listed still have agreement documents marked as “link pending” in the federal database, indicating their finalized documentation has not yet been publicly posted.

Meanwhile, the City of Pottsville was expected to vote on entering the 287(g) program during its April 15, 2026 council meeting. However, city officials tabled the matter until their May meeting in order to conduct additional research on the agreement and program requirements.

The expansion of the 287(g) program in Schuylkill County comes amid growing national debate over local cooperation with federal immigration enforcement efforts.
