Project SEARCH is an innovative workforce and career development program offered through a partnership between Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 and Lehigh Valley Health Network-Jefferson Health. The program focuses on preparing participants for competitive employment by combining real-world work experience with instruction in employability and independent living skills.
Hosted at LVHN-Jefferson, Project SEARCH is a business-led, one-year school-to-work program that provides total workplace immersion. Participants spend the year in a professional setting where classroom instruction is blended with career exploration and hands-on job training through a series of strategically designed internships.
Program organizers say the model is intended to provide students with the skills and experience needed to make successful transitions from school to productive adult life.
During the May 19 ceremony, five graduates were honored for successfully completing the program and the workplace experiences that accompany it.
Project SEARCH is currently hosted by LVHN-Jefferson and continues to provide opportunities for students with special needs to gain valuable job skills while preparing for meaningful employment and greater independence.
