Convention Week officially began Sunday, August 16, with a Memorial Service at St. Richard's Church in Barnesville honoring members of the fire service who have passed away.
Activities continue Monday, August 17, with Training Night at Lakewood Park Campground in Barnesville. The training program is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Tuesday, August 18, will feature Family Night at the firehouse beginning at 5:30 p.m. This year's event will include a "Touch a Truck," giving families and children an opportunity to get an up-close look at emergency vehicles and equipment.
On Wednesday, August 19, the convention will hold its County Delegates Meeting at Catalpa Grove Venue. The meeting is not open to the public. Fire companies planning to send delegates are asked to register their representatives in advance.
The public festivities resume Thursday, August 20, with Mug Night at the grove located at 153 Grier Avenue beginning at 7 p.m. The firehouse will be used as a rain location.
Entertainment will be provided by JFK, with food available from Vince's Cheesesteaks. Attendees who purchase a mug will be able to drink tap beer for free, while additional beverage options will be available for purchase.
The week's activities will culminate Saturday, August 22, with the annual Schuylkill County Firefighters Convention Parade.
Judging will take place at 100 Logistics Drive in Barnesville from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., with the parade stepping off at 1 p.m.
Fire apparatus will line up along Barnesville Drive, Route 54, from Hillside Drive to Logistics Drive. Marching units and bands will assemble along Hillside Drive.
Parking will be available at the fire company's grove, behind the firehouse and at The Lakeside Ballroom. Shuttles will operate between the parking and staging areas.
The parade will begin at the intersection of Barnesville Drive and Hillside Drive and travel along Barnesville Drive to Grier Avenue. Participants will turn left onto Grier Avenue, with the parade ending at the fire company's grove in Grier City.
Fire companies, apparatus, marching units, EMS organizations, civic groups, bands and other organizations are encouraged to participate in the parade.
