PennDOT is inviting public and private high schools in Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, and Schuylkill counties to participate in the 2026 program, which challenges students to create an original mural on a PennDOT snowplow blade.
Each design must incorporate this year's statewide safety theme, "Snow Means Slow," a reminder for motorists to reduce their speed and drive with extra caution during winter weather conditions.
The Paint the Plow initiative was launched in Pennsylvania in 2015 and has grown to include most counties across the Commonwealth. Beyond encouraging safe winter driving, the program also highlights the importance of school art programs and gives students a unique opportunity to display their creativity on equipment that will be seen throughout the winter season.
Last year, students from five counties within PennDOT District 5 participated in the program.
Schools interested in taking part must have a school official complete and submit an application to PennDOT District 5 regional coordinator Sean Brown at sebrown@pa.gov. Plow delivery and pickup schedules will vary by county.
