Auburn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3975 Commander Charles A. Hazzard has received an honorary appointment as an aide-de-camp to VFW National Commander-in-Chief Cory L. Geisler.
Honorary National VFW Appointment
Hazzard received the appointment on , after being nominated by Pennsylvania VFW Department Commander Jim Brown and District 12 Commander James Rice.
The honor recognizes Hazzard’s service, leadership and commitment to veterans and their communities.
A national aide-de-camp appointment is an honorary VFW leadership position presented to members whose service goes above and beyond the call of duty.
“This recognition comes as a result of the hard work and dedication of the small group of post officers I have had the pleasure to work with to make Auburn VFW Post 3975 and the Auburn community a better place,” Hazzard said.
Hazzard’s Military Service
Hazzard is a U.S. Army veteran who qualified for VFW membership through his deployment to Baghdad, Iraq, with the 358th Civil Affairs Brigade headquarters from 2006 to 2007.
He served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve from 1977 to 2008.
During his military career, retired First Sgt. Hazzard held several leadership positions with units in the Schuylkill County area, including:
- First sergeant of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 365th Engineer Battalion, in Schuylkill Haven
- First sergeant of the 131st Transportation Company in Williamstown
- Platoon sergeant with Company B, 228th Supply and Transportation Battalion, in Pine Grove

Hazzard joined Auburn VFW Post 3975 in 2008 and maintains a life membership. He has held several elected and appointed positions at both the post and district levels.
