Forty-one Schuylkill County municipalities will receive a combined $24,400 in liquor license fee returns as part of a statewide distribution announced by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board.
Pottsville will receive the county’s largest payment at $4,200, followed by Tamaqua at $1,600 and Shenandoah at $1,300. Frackville, Mahanoy City and Minersville will each receive $1,200.
Statewide, the PLCB is returning more than $2.3 million to 1,352 municipalities. The distribution covers fees paid from Feb. 1 through July 31, 2026.
According to the PLCB, state law requires the agency to return a portion of liquor license fees twice a year to the municipalities where those licenses are located. Local governments have flexibility in deciding how to use the money to meet community needs.
The agency regulates about 15,000 retail liquor licenses across Pennsylvania, including those held by restaurants, clubs and hotels. License fees range from $125 to $700, depending on the type of license and the municipality’s population. The fees are paid during annual renewals or validations, as well as with certain new applications.
This round of payments will go to 57 cities, 536 boroughs and 759 townships, with individual municipalities receiving between $50 and $375,525.
