Martin C. Haney of Minersville

Martin C. Haney

Martin C. Haney, 67, of Minersville, passed away suddenly at home on Friday, September 11, 2026.

Marty was born in Pottsville, Pa., on August 13, 1959, a son of the late Catherine C. (Weiss) and Martin J. Haney.

Marty was a graduate of Minersville Area High School, Class of 1977.

He was employed by Evans Delivery in the Settlement Department for the last 39 years, recently celebrating his retirement on August 28.

Marty is survived by his niece, Kelli, wife of Tim Leese, and his nephew, Brayden Leese. Marty is also survived by his brother, Glenn Haney, and an aunt, Carol Weiss.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Susan Haney; his uncle, William Weiss; and his aunt, Annice Weiss.

Marty was an avid walker and could often be found on the walking path in Pottsville, but his greatest joy was attending Brayden's soccer games and track events.

All are respectfully invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, September 23, at Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home, Minersville, with calling hours from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Brian Beissel officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Minersville.

Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home Inc., Minersville, is entrusted with the arrangements.


Doris Edna Smith of Barry Township

Doris Edna (Shadle) Smith

Doris Edna (Shadle) Smith, age 86, of Barry Township, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2026, at The Gardens at York Terrace, Pottsville.

She was born on August 23, 1940, in Hegins Twp, a daughter of the late Raymond Shadle and the late Verdie (Lucas) Shadle, raised by Charles and Darothy Yarnell.

Doris was a 1958 graduate of Tri-Valley High School. She was a seamstress, and provided personal care services for many years, prior to her retirement. Doris was a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church, Lavelle.

Doris found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including working on puzzle books, sewing, floral arranging, and, most importantly, spending cherished time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Leroy J. Smith; her parents; by the wonderful people that raised her, Charles and Darothy Yarnell; by six brothers, Kenneth Shadle, Harvey Shadle, Leonard Shadle, Marvin Shadle, Edgar Shadle, and Earl Shadle.

She is survived by five daughters, Brenda Scheuren and her husband Robert of Ashland, Sharon Kimmel and her husband Richard of Ashland, Debra Smith of Hegins, Charlotte Green and her husband Carl of Ashland, and Suzanne Zerbe and her husband Chris of Valley View; a son, David Smith of Ogden, UT; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Maurer, of SC; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Evangelical Methodist Church, Lavelle, on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Joshua Mowery officiating.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at the church.

Burial will be in Yarnell Cemetery, Barry Township.
