ABA Parade Returning This Year

Parade organizers have announced that the Ashland Boys Association Parade will return in 2017.

After taking a hiatus in 2016, organizers announced today that the annual Ashland Labor Day weekend tradition will return on Saturday, September 2nd, at 6:00pm.

The Ashland Boys Association, which was established in 1900,  celebrates the parade annually as a homecoming in the borough.

As the borough's historical marker states, " Widespread job loss in Pennsylvania's anthracite region in the late 19th Century led many Ashland Boys to seek employment elsewhere.  Strong attachment to the miners former hometown prompted formation of the ABA."

The homecoming celebrations of the ABA on Labor Day weekend led to the tradition of the parade.

Residents should be aware that cars will need to moved from Hoffman Boulevard, Walnut Street, and Centre Streets during the parade.

Anyone who is wishing to help or participate in the event can call 570-985-3702 or 570-875-2355.
