Yuengling to Start Making Ice Cream Again

One thing that might not come to mind when hear the word "Yuengling" is ice cream, but that is about to change.

Yuengling started making ice cream back in the prohibition days but back in 1985, it stopped production of it for unknown reasons.

A relative of Dick Yuengling, David Yuengling, and a partner have decided to revive the family's ice cream brand.

"We've actually upped the quality of the product from 30 years ago and removed all artificial ingredients and are now producing a premium ice cream that we think - first of all people will try it just because of the name - but people will keep buying it because of the high quality of the ice cream", says David Yuengling.

Besides traditional ice cream flavors, one new flavor is said to be "Black and Tan", a mixture of chocolate ice cream and caramel.  It's been said though that none of the ice cream will contain beer.

Other flavors are said to be a vanilla fudge chunk with pretzels, Root Beer Float, and Espresso Chocolate Chip.

Yuengling says Leiby's Diary will produce the ice cream at a plant in Tamaqua.

The ice cream is said to hit the shelves by March 2014.
