Fire Reported at North Schuylkill High School

Around 1:00pm Thursday, fire personnel were called to North Schuylkill High School for a fire in an air vent.

The fire is reported to be near the loading dock, lower level area of the school.

Responders are trained for this situation, we ask everyone to stay calm.

UPDATE:  1:10PM -  All students are out of the building.  High School Students are reportedly being sent to the elementary school.

UPDATE:  1:12PM - Message from North Schuylkill School District - There is a small structure fire in the High School.  All High School students have been evacuated to the elementary school.  Students will be bussed home once the buses can get to the school.  Please do not come to the school pick up your children.  They will arrive home on their normal bus.

UPDATE 1:30PM - High School is being dismissed at 2:00pm and the elementary at 2:45pm.  Parents arriving to pick up elementary kids should not arrive until after 2:30pm.

UPDATE 3:30PM - Update from Superintendent Robert Ackell - There was a small fire that was contained to one area on the lower level in the Industrial Arts classroom. Students and staff were safely evacuated to the elementary school. When the building was deemed safe by fire officials, students returned to the main level to get belongings and clothing before being dismissed from the elementary. We are currently assessing the situation and will continue to communicate updates. We would like to thank the students and staff for their cooperation, patience and assistance during this situation.
