PennDOT Reduces Speeds on Area Interstates

PennDOT announced around 9am Monday that they were reducing the speed of the area interstates.

Due to the severity of the winter storm, PennDOT is temporarily reducing the speed limit on roadways in the region.

In addition to the speed restrictions announced for Interstates 80, 81, 84, and 380 in Lackawanna, Luzerne and Pike counties, there will also be a restriction in place on Interstate 380 in Monroe County. PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on those roadways.

Although PennDOT crews have been treating roadways, the department’s primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow. PennDOT will continue to treat roadways throughout the storm until precipitation stops and roads are clear.
