Group Using Social Media to Get Chick Fil A Back in Schuylkill County

Chick Fil A has a lot of fans around the country, many of which are in Schuylkill County.  But since the location in Schuylkill County closed, a group of friends are using social media to get one back in the area.

In 2009, the Chick Fil A in the Schuylkill Mall closed which meant those who craved their chicken sandwiches, nuggets, or strips had to travel almost an hour to find the closest location.

The closest locations to Schuylkill County are the Berkshire Mall and Broadcasting Square (Reading), Hershey, Lehigh Valley Mall (Whitehall), Mechanicsburg, and Wilkes Barre.  For a full list of locations in Pennsylvania, click here.

Last year, a group of friends who were contemplating a trip to Reading knew there were many others like them in Schuylkill County.  They decided to use social media as a way to gather support and hopefully get the company to notice the county's interest.

That's when the "Bring Chick Fil A Back to Schuylkill County" Facebook Page was born.

Admins of the page, who asked to remain anonymous, said this is everyone's effort and want no recognition.  All they ask is recognition for the page to get noticed by the company so they build one.

The page currently has over 2,000 followers and has gained over 100 new followers weekly and continues to grow.

Chick Fil A's are built by "Franchise Operators" who invest money to create their restaurant and then operate them.

For an initial financial fee of $10,000 selected franchisees, aka Operators, are granted the rights necessary to operate a franchised Chick-fil-A Restaurant business. The Chick-fil-A franchise opportunity requires that the individual be free of any other active business ventures and operate the restaurant on a full-time, hands-on basis.

Chick Fil A reportedly receives over 20,000 inquiries from franchisee candidates each year but only selects 75-80 annually.

Skook News reached out the company to show them the page and to show them the amount of support in the area.  This was the response we received.

Although we would like to accommodate all location requests, our Chick-fil-A Restaurant new opening locations are determined through market research and analysis.

Our current new markets are New York, Washington, Oregon and Michigan. We hope to open our first restaurant in Nevada by 2017 and are looking to identify sites in the near future.

We showed this to the admins of the page and even though the information is discouraging for our area, they said this has only given them more reason to get more followers and to work harder.

They plan to contact the company monthly to show them the county's support.  They are also hoping someone notices the page who would invest and join their effort.
