PennDOT Announces Work to Begin on 6 Interstate 81 Bridges in Schuylkill County

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Engineering District 5 announced Friday that work will begin Monday (March 12) to repair six bridges on Interstate 81 between Exit 104 (PA 125) and Exit 112 (PA 25) in Schuylkill County.




The bridges being repaired are:

• I-81 north over Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad in Frailey Township;
• I-81 south over Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad in Frailey Township;
• I-81 north over PA 125 and Good Spring Creek in Frailey Township;
• I-81 south over PA 125 and Good Spring Creek in Frailey Township;
• I-81 north over Fountain Road in Frailey Township;
• I-81 south over Fountain Road in Frailey Township.
The contractor will repair decks, beams, wing-walls, and guiderail on the bridges.
Starting Monday motorists can expect weekday lane restrictions between 6:30 AM and 4:30 PM on I-81 north between exits 104 and 112. Updates will be provided whenever traffic restrictions change on I-81 north or south.
The project is expected to be complete in October. All schedules are subject to change.
J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Pa. is the general contractor on the $2,164,712 project.
This section of I-81 has an average daily traffic volume of 24,625 vehicles.
