Ashland Police Investigating Altercation Involving Axe and Machete

Police are investing a fight that occurred Thursday evening in Ashland involving an axe and a machete.

According to Ashland Police, on Thursday, May 10th, just before 7:00pm, Officer Phil Schlegal was dispatched to the 1400 block of Walnut Street for a report of two males fighting in the street with also a report of one of the males wielding an axe and a machete.

When Officer Schlegal arrived, the two males had already been separated with one of them fleeing the scene prior to his arrival.

An investigation was conducted and it was determined that the incident began when Samuel Smith, 19, arrived at the home of Michael Blessing, 34, of Ashland.  Smith reportedly started the altercation with Blessing and knocked out a screen door window.  It was at this point, Blessing grabbed an axe and machete from inside his home and proceeded to chase Smith into the street.

The altercation continued into the street until Smith fled the scene in his vehicle.

The investigation into the fight is continuing with charges expected to be filed at a later date.

Assisting at the scene were Police Departments from Butler Township, Girardville, and Frackville.
