Man Charged for Church Burglary in Heckscherville


This week, police made an arrest in an investigation for the burglary of a church in Cass Township.

According to Cass Township Police, in early May, Township Police were working with the Pennsylvania State Police Forensics Unit out of Reading to investigate a burglary at the St. Kierans Church in Heckscherville, Cass Township.

At the time, police reported that someone broke in the church through a rear door, cut out numerous church pews along with pipes and electrical wiring, then smashed a side window to remove the items.

During the investigation, police were able to identify a main suspect in the burglary through items left behind at the scene and reports of finding the church pews on their property

On Thursday, May 24, 2018, Cass Township Police Officer Daley filed a criminal complaint and an arrest was made on Friday, May 25, 2018.

Steven Platts, 54, of Ann Street, Norwegian Township, Pottsville, was taken into custody by Saint Clair Clair Police and charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft, receiving stolen property, vandalism, and criminal mischief.



Platts was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Reilley and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on $75,000 straight cash bail.
