Woman Seriously Injured in Route 61 DUI Crash Late Monday

A woman was flown with serious injuries after a crash late Monday in West Brunswick Township.


According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the crash occurred just before 10:00pm at the intersection of the Centre Pike (Route 61) and Penn Street.

Police say the crash occurred when Jasmine Newby, 22, of Auburn was travelling north on Route 61 when she crossed the raised median, slide across the southbound lanes, continued off the roadway and striking a tree with the rear door of the vehicle.

The Chevrolet Lumina that she was driving came to a final rest at the point of impact.

Newby was extricated from the vehicle and flown to Reading Hospital for the treatment of serious injuries.

Police say Newby was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and numerous controlled substances.

Charges will be filed pending blood test results.
