Mahanoy City Man in Custody After Fleeing Police

A Mahanoy City man is in custody after fleeing police earlier this week.

According to Mahanoy City Police, on September 10, 2018, Corporal Charles Kovalewski had taken Kenneth Vanhorn, 39, of Mahanoy City, into custody at the Mahanoy City Food Store on an outstanding warrant.

Once Vanhorn was in custody, it was deemed that Vanhorn was in need of medical attention for an assault that happened earlier in the day.  Vanhorn was transported to a hospital in Pottsville where Pottsville Police was notified prior to his arrival.  Once arriving in Pottsville, Vanhorn left the ambulance and fled.

On Thursday, September 13, around 4:40pm, Corporal Kovalewski was on routine patrol when he observed Vanhorn standing on the porch of 39 West Spruce Street.  Vanhorn fled into the home where Kovalewski found him hiding in the basement.

Vanhorn was taken into custody on the outstanding warrant and will now also face charges of avoiding apprehension.
