Man in Custody for Threatening Another Man with a Knife

A Mahanoy City man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison after threatening another man with a knife.


According to Mahanoy City Police, on Thursday, September 13, 2018 around 10:20pm, Patrolman Jonathan McHugh respond to 32 West Market Street in the borough for multiple 911 hang up calls.

After speaking with those at the home, police learned that Michael Berdecia-Gomez, 26, of Mahanoy City, arrived at the home and when Jayson Hierro-Delacruz opened the front door Gomez held a kitchen knife to his throat and stated he was going to kill him.  The entire incident also took place in front of 3 children that were in the room at the time.

Delacruz told police he was in fear of his life and for his children.

Gomez was detained by police where they found large kitchen knife in his front pocket.

Gomez was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, and harassment.

Gomez was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on $20,000 cash bail.
