Victim Identified After Pedestrian Fatally Struck Sunday Evening

The victim has been identified in a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian being fatally struck in Port Clinton late Sunday.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the incident occurred around 9:45pm, Sunday, when Edward Shadle, 27, of Ambler, PA was travelling on Route 61 in Port Clinton near Clinton Street.

Police say as Shadle was travelling in the right southbound lane, Michael Andrews, 57, of Port Clinton was laying in the travel lane after falling onto the roadway while he exited his vehicle.

A vehicle in front of Shadle abruptly swerved to the left lane avoid Andrews in the roadway, but Shadle was unable to avoid Andrews and inadvertently struck him.

Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Michael Pothering.

After the incident, Shadle immediately pulled over and remained on scene.  Shadle will not be charged.

Route 61 was closed in the area while the crash was investigated.
