Veterans Treated to Appreciation Dinner from Bixler Pyrotechnics

On Friday evening, Bixler Pyrotechnics held their Annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner.

Bixler's is known for their fiery pyrotechnic 4th of July shows in Hegins, Pottsville, and the former "Thunder Over Ashland".

But for the past 4 years, the fireworks display company has held an appreciation dinner that is open to any area veteran and their spouse.

The meal includes smoked turkey, stuffing, cole slaw, corn, gravy, dessert, and a beverage.

This year, the staff of Bixler's prepared 24 turkeys and served over 200 people by the end of the night.

Mike Bixler, owner of Bixler Pyrotechnics, started the dinner as a way to say thank you to the Veterans.

"I wanted do something to give back to those that have done some much for us." said Bixler.

The Church of the Nazarene in Lavelle has opened it's doors each year to help host the dinner.

As each of the attendees left with a full belly and a smile, they thanked Bixler's for the meal.

"Great food served by great people", said one of the Veterans.
