Ice Skating, Snowman Building, and More Coming to Pottsville Winterfest

Celebrate the season with the inaugural Winterfest event, presented by the historic Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival. This event will feature local craft and food vendors, and tons of family friendly activities.

Deirdre Boris, President of the Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival board, shared her thoughts on the upcoming event, “The Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival is thrilled to be embarking on this collaborative venture with PADCO, The City of Pottsville, and the Revitalization Project to bring to the Schuylkill County community Pottsville Winterfest. Winterfest will be a day filled with family fun for people of all ages to enjoy a little bit of winter as we kickoff The 2019 Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival.....Surfin 2019 Style. Come join the fun!”

One of the highlights of the event will be the placement of an ice skating rink donated by Barefield Development Corporation in the Towne Drugs parking lot. Skate rentals will be provided for $3 each, and all profits will benefit the Continued Progress Project. In addition, Winterfest will be hosting a snowman building contest for families, featuring truckloads of snow generously donated by Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton, PA. A free photobooth, food trucks, and a beer garden for adults will also be part of the festivities. Entertainment will include a performance by Toolshed Jack, sponsored by Riverview Bank, dancers from The Crimson Academy, and special introductions made by Winter Carnival royalty.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating on this event with the City of Pottsville and The Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival,” said Savas Logothetides, Interim Executive Director of PADCO and owner of The Wheel Restaurant. “After the success of Pottsville on Tap, we wanted to add another great event for people to enjoy. Winter carnival has a foundation of success, and we can’t wait to work together with them this year, and in the future.”

The event will take place January 12th, 11AM - 5PM, on South 2nd Street between West Market Street and Mahantongo Street. Potential vendors and volunteers can sign up and find out more information at www.downtownpottsville.com/events.

Pottsville Winterfest is part of the Pottsville Continued Progress Project, a PADCO initiative. PADCO is the city’s economic development agency and works to instill vibrancy to the downtown business community and improve quality of life for its residents. In collaboration with the City and PBA, PADCO has led the effort to revitalize downtown. All proceeds from Pottsville Winterfest will go to support that effort. The full Downtown Pottsville Revitalization Strategy is available on PADCO’s website under Continued Pottsville Progress (www.downtownpottsville.com).
