Barnesville Man Leads Police in Chase in Pottsville

A Barnesville man led Pottsville Police in a chase earlier this week.

According to Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 around 12:40am, Pottsville Police were dispatched to the M&M Bar in the 500 Block of North Centre Street for a report of an assault.

Upon arrival police were advised by a 21 year old Pottsville woman that the suspect, later identified as Zachary Cash, 21, of Barnesville, was attempting to leave in a white Chrysler 200.

Ptlm Braden Jones observed the Chrysler proceed south on Centre Street from the 600 block of North Centre Street towards his location.

As the vehicle was approached, the vehicle picked up a significant amount of speed. Ptlm. Tina Sullivan was also on location at that time and she attempted to flag down the vehicle with her flashlight and her hand indicating to the vehicle operator but Cash proceeded past the uniformed officers without stopping.

Jones then began a pursuit of the Chrysler in his marked patrol vehicle with activated emergency lights in an attempt to stop Cash's vehicle.

Cash proceeded to turn east onto Harrison Street and then proceeded to turn north onto Progress Avenue without coming to a complete stop at the clearly marked stop sign.

Cash continued on Progress Avenue at a high rate of speed and then turned south onto Terry Reiley Way and east on Nichols Street, again without stopping for the clearly marked stop signs.

During this pursuit Jones observed the Chrysler drift onto the far right side of the road nearly striking a parked vehicle and also proceed to cross the center yellow line multiple times.

Cash finally pulled his vehicle over and stopped in the 300 block of Nichols Street and he was taken into custody.

During the subsequent investigation officers observed multiple indications that he had been operating the vehicle while intoxicated and he was transported from the scene for Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) testing to be completed but he refused to submit to the testing.

Jones prepared a criminal complaint charging Cash with Fleeing and Eluding Police, Misdemeanor Driving Under the influence of Alcohol, Reckless Driving, and three summary counts of Duties at a stop sign and the investigation is continuing
