North Schuylkill Board Holds Monthly Meeting; Recognizes Students of the Month and Math 24 Team

On Wednesday, March 20th, 2019, the North Schuylkill School District held their monthly Board of School Directors Public Meeting.






Prior to the 7:00pm start of the regular meeting, the Committee of the Whole Meeting was held to hear updates from the Elementary and High Schools, as well as to recognize the Students of the months.

Those recognized from the elementary school were:
 - Hailey Sisko, 1st Grade, Nominated by Mrs. Burns
 - Emily Krietzer, 2nd Grade, nominated by Mrs. Wiscount
 - Wesley Urban, 4th Grade, nomimated by Mrs. Herring and the 4th Grade Teachers
 - London White, 5th Grade, nominated by Mr. Kelly
 - Also recognized was the Math 24 Challenge Team which included
    - 5th Grade - Tony Li, Lauren Powis, and Aiden Olivieri
    - 6th Grade - Kolton Joyce, Donovan Hasker, Joseph Campbell, Maliyah Alexander, Brynn Brzoska, Erika Trexler, and Trinity Davies

The School Board Members also sat down with the Math 24 Challenge Team to play a Round

After all students were recognized, the board of School Directors held a brief executive meeting to discuss personnel and litigation.

The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance and roll call.  All members were present.

The minutes were approved from previous meetings.


A motion was requested and approved for the financial reports and check registers.

A motion was requested and a roll call vote was held to approve the sale of the following property that has been placed in the "repository for unsold properties" and an offer received:

45-7-34 - 209 East B Street, Girardville  for $1,147.00 - The motion failed with all members voting "No".

A motion was requested and a roll call vote was held for the sale of the following property that has been placed in the "repository for unsold properties" and an offer received:

43-4-260-1 35 South Lehigh Avenue, Frackville  for $1,365.00

A motion is requested and approved a Resolution Supporting Cyber Charter School Amendments as presented to the Board.

A motion is requested and approved the purchase of the VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) Phone System from Dauphin DataCom, Harrisburg, PA, through PEPPM at a total cost of $53,468.74.

NOTE: Five (5) POE Switches will be purchased through eRate/PEPPM not to exceed $10,000.00 the cost to the District wit! only be 20% of that total.

A motion is requested and atespproved to authorize the Business Manager to open a Certificate of Deposit with Mid Penn Bank for $250,000.00 for three months at 1.95% retroactive to March 14, 2019.

A motion is requested and approved the Business Manager to open a Certificate of Deposit with Mid Penn Bank for $150,000.00 for three months at 1.95% retroactive to March 20, 2019.

A motion is requested and approved to advertise/post the sale of a Toro Groundsmaster 3505.

A motion is requested and approved the Facility Use Requests

Applications, pending appropriate insurance and facility availability. All Facility Use Applications are contingent upon availability and cannot interfere with District activities or events. Fees will be applied where applicable.
A motion is requested and approved an Administrative Internship for Travis Hinkel, Elementary Teacher with Missy Whitaker, Elementary Principal and Janel Hansbury, Assistant Elementary Principal during the summer of 2019.

A motion is requested and approved a childbearing/childrearing leave request submitted by Kristen Weinreich, Elementary Special Education Teacher, effective on or about August 20, 2019, until on or about November 1, 2019. She will use all of her available sick and personal days and then be on unpaid FMLA Leave.

A motion is requested and approved , upon receipt of all appropriate documentation, the employment of the following individuals as Part-Time Cafeteria Workers at a rate of $9.75 per hour, pending a written satisfactory evaluation after a 60-day probationary period:bMaria Considder (retroactive to March 7, 2019) Rosanne Mills (retroactive to March 13, 2019)

A motion is requested and approved retroactive pay to Rafph Chiplonia, Full-Time Custodial/Maintenance Worker for $927.34.

A motion is requested and approved the resignation of Maria Considder, Part-Time Cafeteria Worker, effective March 11, 2019.

A motion is requested and approved , upon receipt of all appropriate documentation, the employment of Tara Coffey as a Part-Time Custodian at a rate of $9.50 per hour, pending a written satisfactory evaluation after a 60-day probationary period.

A motion is requested and approved the adoption of the textbooks as listed below. This is in accordance with the Pennsylvania School Code, Article VII, Section 803.

A motion was made and approved a field trip request to the Whitaker Center, Harrisburg, PA, from the NSE PTO for 3rd Grade students, teachers and chaperones.

A motion was made and approved the attendance of Dr. Robert Ackell and Knute Brayford at an overnight conference, Indiana Area Safety and Security Symposium, in Indiana, PA, on March 15, 2019. There is no charge for the conference.

A motion was made and approved the attendance of the Varsity and Junior Varsity Boys Basketball Players at an overnight camp at Alvernia University, Reading, PA, at no cost to the District.

A motion was made and approved Varsity Girls Basketball Players to attend an overnight campat Alvernia University, Reading, PA, at no cost to the District.

A motion was made and approved the attendance of the Varsity and Junior Varsity Football Cheerleaders at an overnight camp at Pine Forest Camp, Greeley, PA, at no cost to the District.

A motion was made and approved , upon receipt of all appropriate documentation, Justin Sharp as a Volunteer Assistant Trap Team Advisor for the 2018-2019 school year.

A motion was made and approved a field trip request to the Montoursville Area High School, Montoursville, PA, from Danielle Moyer and Lindsay Furman to see a Spanish Concert for Spanish Club Members, students and chaperones with no costs to the District. (Note: This trip replaces the previously approved NYC Trip that was cancelled due to a conflict with a track meet.)

A motion was made and approved Spring 2019 Athletic Schedules

A motion was made and approved the first reading of the following policies:
214 — Class Rank
246 — School Wellness

A motion was made and approved the School Visitors Raptor Procedures as presented to the Board.

No old business was presented.

No new business was presented.

A motion was made and a roll call vote was held for the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 Program Budget as presented and that the Secretary be directed to notify the proper authorities of the decision made by the Board of Education concerning this action. North Schuylkill's share of the IU Program Budget for 2019-2020 is $0.00. [North Schuylkill's share for the 2018-2019 school year was $0.00.]

All members voted "Yes".

No members of the public opted to speak when asked.
