A man is facing assault charges after he allegedly assaulted a girl in Mahanoy City last weekend.

According to Mahanoy City Police Chief Mark Wiekrykas, on Sunday, May 12, 2019 around 6:10pm, police were called to the 400 Block of West Market Street,  for a report of a domestic disturbance, possibly involving the assault of a child.

Upon arrival, officers learned that during the course of an argument, Regenald Rogers, 27, of Mahanoy City struck a 9 year old girl over the head with a  plastic guitar, stepped on her ribcage area, and threw an approximately five-foot tall shoe rack across her body.

Wiekrykas said that Rogers also resisted the initial attempts to take him into custody, requiring assistance from additional officers to safely take him under arrest.

Officer Thomas Rentschler charged Rogers with Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Resisting Arrest, Harrassment.

Rogers was arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge James Ferrier and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $15,000 straight cash bail.
