Berks County Fire That Left 3 Dead was a Murder/Suicide

State Police have release more information on a garage fire that left 3 people dead in Berks County.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, on Saturday, November 23, 2019, fire crews were dispatched to a garage fire at 931 Chestnut Street, in Union Township, Berks County.

Fire crews extinguished the fire and found the bodies of three victims.

Two of the victims were identified as Joanne Deluca, 63, and Ira Reed, 60.  The third has yet to be identified.

On Monday, the Pennsylvania State Police held a press conference releasing additional details

Police said through the investigation thus far both Joanne Deluca and Ira Reed were both killed in their residence at 931 Chestnut St.

Both were pronounced by the Berks County Coroner’s office November 23, 2019. Both died from blunt force trauma. The weapon used was a hammer.

The third victim/suspect went into the nearby detached garage. It is there where the suspect used a flammable substance to ignite themselves. The ensuing fire damaged a car and the garage.

The autopsy of the suspect was today. The cause of death was smoke inhalation.

DNA testing is being used to make positive identification of the victim/suspect.
