CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Mahanoy City Ambulance Involved in Crash in Pottsville

On Friday, an ambulance from Mahanoy City EMS was involved in an accident in the city of Pottsville.

According to Pottsville Police Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, on Thursday March 5th, 2020 at approx. 12:00pm, Pottsville Bureau of Police Ptl Anna Flail investigated a non-reportable accident that had occurred at the intersection of State Route 61 and East Norwegian Street.

The investigation showed that a Mahanoy City EMS ambulance being operated by an 18 year old female EMT from Mahanoy City had been en route back to Mahanoy City after being dispatched for an emergency call while at the Geisinger St. Luke’s Medical Centre in Orwigsburg.

The ambulance driver approached the intersection traveling northbound with the emergency lights activated on the ambulance.

As the operator scanned the intersection while facing a steady red traffic signal she perceived it to be safe to proceed through but failed to adequately slow down and drove into the path of a Buick Rendezvous being operated westbound on East Norwegian Street by a 63 year old Cumbola man.

Through no fault of the Cumbola man, the Buick struck the passenger side rear of the ambulance causing damage to both vehicles.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.

The ambulance driver is being cited by Flail for section 3105 of the PA Vehicle Code dealing with responsibilities of Drivers of Emergency Vehicles.
