Ashland Man Charged for Pulling Gun on Woman Over Parking Spot

An Ashland man has been charged after pulling a gun on woman over a parking spot over the weekend.

Roy Mehlman, 67, of Ashland, is facing charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, driving under the influence, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, restrictions on driving (driving with an open container), and recklessly endangering the welfare of another person after pulling a gun on a woman in May's Drive In parking lot.

According to court papers, on Saturday, May 2nd, 2020 around 6:10pm, Ashland Police Officer Haraschak was dispatched to May's Drive In for a report of a male that pulled a gun on female.

As Officer Haraschak responded, information was relayed that the male was in a Black Ford Fusion with a female occupant.

As the officer arrived on scene, he saw the suspect's vehicle fleeing the scene.  The Fusion continued down Market Street until Officer Haraschak initiated a traffic stop in the 1900 Block.

When the vehicle stopped, Mehlman, the driver, attempted to get out of the vehicle, but Officer Haraschak ordered him to stay inside, due to not knowing where the firearm was.

The officer made contact and walked Mehlman out of the vehicle and attempted to take him back to the back of the vehicle for further questioning.

As Mehlman got to the rear driver's side door, he attempted to open it, that is when Officer Haraschak saw the firearm on the floor of the vehicle.

Officer Haraschak then used force to take Mehlman into custody and place him in his police vehicle to secure him.

After removing the female passenger, a search of the vehicle led to the finding of a fully loaded black Beretta 92FS with a round in the chamber.

At the traffic stop, Officer Haraschak was assisted by Butler Township Police Sgt. Eric Vinskie and Sheriff Joseph Groody.

Officer Haraschak returned to May's Drive In to speak to victim.

The victim's husband told police that as him and his wife pulled into May's Drive In and parked, Mehlman told them that they parked too close to him.

After moving their vehicle, and picking up their food, Mehlman allegedly confronted the female victim and asked her "how she was doing" as he sat inside his vehicle with the door open.  It was at this point the victim saw Mehlman was holding the firearm pointed at her stomach area as he was talking to her.

The victim then ran back to her vehicle and called 911.  It was at this point Mehlman became agitated and fled the scene as police arrived.

Mehlman was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James Reiley and released on $50,000 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Mehlman on May 18th, 2020 before Judge Reiley.
