Construction Worker Struck and Killed Along Interstate 81 in Hazle Township Overnight

The Pennsylvania State Police are looking for a driver and vehicle involved in a fatal accident overnight where a construction worker was struck and killed along Interstate 81 in Luzerne County.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Hazleton, the incident occurred around 1:15am, Saturday, August 1st, 2020, in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81.

Police say a silver Hyundai was traveling north on the Interstate in the area of mile marker 143.2 in Hazle Township in the right lane which was closed due to active night time construction taking place.

As the vehicle was traveling through the closed right lane, it struck a construction worker who has been identified as Kevin Dendulk, 30, of Royerford.

The vehicle continued and fled the scene without stopping.

State Police say Dendulk died at the scene of the incident and was pronounced dead by a Luzerne County Deputy Coroner at 2:05am.

Police say the fleeing vehicle is believed to a be a Silver Hyundai sedan with front end damage and a missing passenger side mirror.
