Investigation Ongoing After Pedestrian Struck and Killed Late Wednesday on Route 61 in Pottsville

The investigation is ongoing after a pedestrian was struck and killed along Route 61 in Pottsville late Wednesday.

According to Pottsville Police Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020 at 8:00pm, Pottsville Police were dispatched to Route 61, north of E. Race Street, to investigate a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival officers located a deceased 18 year old male laying on the east side of the roadway. Officers also were met by a 29 year old man from Shenandoah who told police he had been operating a 2012 Subaru Legacy on northbound on Route 61 when he struck the victim. 

A Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner was called to the scene with the victim being pronounced dead at 8:36pm.

Pottsville Police Detectives are continuing their investigation into the incident with assistance by the Pennsylvania State Police Reconstruction team.

Chief Wojciechowsky said Thursday morning that additional information will be released when appropriate.
