Shenandoah Valley to Send Three Students to HOBY Conference This Summer

The Shenandoah Valley School District has announced they will send three students to the HOBY Conference this summer.
For over three decades the Shenandoah Valley High School has maintained an affiliation with the Hugh O’Brian Youth Foundation Leadership Ambassador Program (HOBY).

This year, even with the COVID 19 pandemic, plans are tentatively underway to stage the annual conference sometime in the summer with an exact date and site to be determined.

Shown in the photo are three Shenandoah Valley sophomores who indicated that they would like to represent their school by participating in this year’s state conference.

At the conference HOBY facilitators will challenge students to deal with problems and social issues that are prevalent in schools today. Collectively the students will be given the opportunity to address these issues and elaborate on how such problems can be resolved in their respective schools.

The byproduct of this technique is that students will emerge from the program with leadership skills that they can utilize when they return to their home schools and serve as members of their high school Student Council The Shenandoah Valley HOBY Program is coordinated by SV Guidance Counselor Melissa Mikita.

Seated L-R: Alternate Kareena Livergood, SV Lead Ambassador Jennifer Selbi, and Alternate Andrea Velazquez.
