Butler Township Man Dies in Crash Along Route 924 near Gilberton

A Butler Township man died in a crash along Route 924 near Gilberton on Friday afternoon.

Around 12:30pm, emergency personnel were dispatched to the Maizeville side of the Route 924 bridge over Gilberton for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment.

According to Frackville Police Chief Rick Bell, the crash occurred as a white sedan was traveling south on Rt. 924 at a high rate of speed and drove off the roadway, struck an embankment and went over the guard rail, dropping off the side of Rt. 924 approximately 40 to 50 feet to the bottom of the embankment. 

According to Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner, the driver, John Michael Comarnisky, 67, of Butler Township near Fountain Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:20pm.

Assisting the Frackville Police Department was: Gilberton Fire Co., Shenandoah Ambulance, Mahanoy City Fire Rescue, Ashland Police Department, Shenandoah Police Department, West Mahanoy Township Police Department, Mahanoy City Police Department, and the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office.
