Hazleton Man Dies from Injuries, Two Others Injured in Crash in Schuylkill County Early New Years Day

A man has died and two others were injured in a crash on Route 895 near Auburn on early New Years Day.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the crash occurred on January 1st, 2020, around 2:45am, on Route 895 West Brunswick Township.

Police say Gustavo Mulato, 28, of Hazleton was driving a Hyundai Sonata and failed to negotiate a left hand curve in the road.  Mulato's vehicle left the roadway striking a sign, continuing through a grass field toward the Auburn Trail Head.

The vehicle struck an embankment, becoming airborne, then struck two trees before coming to a rest in a culvert.

Mulato and a passenger, Jose Jimenez Arias, of Loc El Zapote, Mexico, were flown to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest.  Mulato later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Arias was reported to have suffered serious injuries.

A third passenger, Johnissa Andrini, 18, of Shenandoah suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to an area hospital via Pottsville/Schuylkill Haven EMS.
