Icy Roads to Blame for Multiple Crashes Over the Weekend

 

Icy roads were to blame for multiple crashes over the weekend in Schuylkill County.

The following stories were reported by the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville.

RYAN TOWNSHIP - January 3rd, 2021 - 2:34pm

The crash occurred on Route 54/Barnesville Drive as Sarah Dziczek, 25, of Frackville was traveling east and lost control due to snow and ice conditions.  Dziczek's Chevrolet Impala struck an embankment sustaining disabling damage.

Dziczek was not injured in the crash and will be cited for not driving at a safe speed.

RUSH TOWNSHIP - January 3rd, 2021 - 3:00pm

The crash occurred as Jodi Olesh, 53, of Coaldale was traveling south on Route 309/Claremont Avenue near Ye Old Hauto Road.  Olesh was trying negotiate a slight left hand curve when she lost control and hit a dirt embankment.  This caused damaged to the front end of the vehicle causing the airbags to deploy.

Olesh was not injured in the crash and her vehicle was towed from the scene.

Route 309 was closed in the area for about 20 minutes until the scene was cleaned up.

FOSTER TOWNSHIP - January 3rd - 2:45pm

The crash occurred on Interstate 81 northbound near mile marker 113.8 when Austin Horst, 25, of Endicott, NY lost control of his RAM 1500 on the snow/wet roadway. 

His truck began to fishtail causing him to spin out into the ditch and striking an embankment.

The airbags deployed and Horst was not injured.

Horst will also be cited for the crash.

MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - January 2nd - 11:20pm

This crash occurred on Mahanoy City Road as Edward Wilner, 30, of Mahanoy City was traveling south on "The Pottsy" and lost control on the ice coated roadway.   

Wilner lost control on a curve, exited the berm of the road and struck trees and an embankment.  The vehicle came to a rest approximately 30 feet down an embankment on it's driver's side.

Wilner was not injured in the crash but his two passengers, Beatrice Perez, 27, of Delano and Danielle Miller, 27, of Mahanoy City both sustained minor injuries.  Both were taken to area hospitals.

The West End Fire Company, Mahanoy City, and ambulances from Mahanoy City and Shenandoah assisted at the scene.

DELANO TOWNSHIP - January 1st -  4:10pm

The crash occurred as Daniel Giles, 28, of Chaumont, NY was traveling southbound on Interstate 81 near mile marker 136.1.

Giles told police he lost control due to freezing rain/ice conditions and lost control of his Jeep Cherokee, and hit a large rock embankment

No injuries were reported but Giles' vehicle was towed from the scene.

The McAdoo Fire Department assisted at the scene.
