Driver Falls Asleep, Strikes Fire Hydrant in Girardville

A woman struck a fire hydrant with her vehicle after falling asleep in Girardville early Monday.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, on February 8th, 2021, around 2:50am, Kimber Kauwell, 44, of Locust Gap was traveling west on Rout 54/East Mahanoy Avenue near the intersection with Vine street when she fell asleep at the wheel. 

Kauwell's Chevrolet Cavalier went off the right shoulder of the roadway and struck a fire hydrant causing disabling damage to the vehicle.

Kauwell was not injured in the crash but her vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
