According to Pottsville Police the crash occurred on Friday, April 23, 2021 around 7:30pm, in the area of Route 61/Claude A Lord Blvd and Mill Creek Avenue.  Emergency personnel responded to the scene of a a reported motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles with fire coming from the engine compartment area of both vehicles.

An investigation by Cpl. Brian Reno revealed that a silver 2011 Ford Escape operated by Richard Barskey, 30,  of Minersville and occupied by a 22 year old woman and 27 yr old man from Pottsville had been traveling north on Route 61 when they made a left turn toward Mill Creek Avenue and collided with a red 2013 Hyundai Veloster operated by a 24 yr old Pottsville man and occupied by an 18 yr old woman from Reading that had been traveling south on Claude A Lord Blvd.

The initial collision caused the Hyundai to strike a black Chevrolet Traverse stopped on Mill Creed Ave facing east that was being operated by a 48 yr old man of Pottsville and occupied by two 13 yr old males.

The Chevrolet was pushed into a black 2009 Hyundai Sonota stopped behind it and being operated by a 28 year old female of Pottsville.

Barskey’s vehicle and the Veloster were found to be smoking from the engine compartments and Pottsville Fire personnel arrived on scene to put out the fire.

Three of the vehicles had to be towed from the scene and the Sonata was able to be driven.

Schuylkill EMS also responded and assisted on scene before transporting one of the 13 year old males for medical treatment at a local medical facility.

Reno will be citing Barskey for a left hand turn violation.
