One Transported After Rollover Crash near Mahanoy City

One person was injured in a rollover crash near Mahanoy City on Thursday evening.

Just before 6:00pm, Thursday, emergency personnel were called to the top of the Vulcan Hill on Route 54, in Mahanoy Township near Interstate 81 for a motor vehicle accident with rollover.

According to Mahanoy Township Police Chief Brandon Alexander, two vehicles were travelling towards Mahanoy City on Route 54 with a Chevrolet Equinox in the right lane and a Toyota Tundra in the left lane.

Chief Alexander said that the driver of the SUV attempted to make a left turn onto Morea Road from the right lane and struck the Toyota as it passed on the left.

The impact caused the Toyota to roll several times before coming to a rest about 30 yards from the point of impact.

The driver of the SUV was not injured but the driver of the SUV was transported to an area hospital with injuries. 

Mahanoy Township Police, Mahanoy City Police, and the West End Fire and Rescue, and Steve's Towing responded to the scene.
