Louella I. "Lulu" Evans, age 73, of Pottsville, PA passed away on Sunday July 18th at her home.

Born in Reading, PA on October 15, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Brobst) Evans.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph and Daniel Evans and a sister Mary Evans.

Lulu is survived by two daughters: Donata Martin with whom she lived with and Marcella Conoranan, Stroudsburg; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; four sisters: Gloria Whalen, Tammy Evans, Margaret Swizsic, and Alva Dura; two brothers: William and Thomas Evans; and nieces and nephews.
A religious service will be held on Saturday July 31st at 11AM at the Robert A Evans Jr Funeral Home in Port Carbon, with Regnal Leibensperger SALM officiating.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with her family on Saturday morning from 9:30-11AM at the funeral home.

Interment will be held private.

Mary Ann Savitsky
, 84, of Ringtown, passed away on Saturday, July 17th at the Shenandoah Senior Living Community.

Born in Brandonville on October 10th, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Lottie (Sekula) Liss. Mary Ann retired from the local cigar factory in Mahanoy City. She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Ringtown. Her hobbies included going on walks with her husband Lenny, polka dancing, antiquing, and reading - especially Birds and Blooms Magazine. She was also noted for her famous apple pie.

She leaves behind her husband of 61 years, Leonard “Lenny” Savitsky Sr., 1 daughter, Ann Brown with her husband Ron – Ringtown, 1 son, Leonard Savitsky Jr. with his wife Tanya – Zion Grove, 1 sister, Leona Dunlap – Brandonville, and nieces and nephews.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 21st from 8 to 10:30am at the Oravitz Home for Funerals Inc, 40 N. Jardin St, Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Ringtown and will be officiated by Fr. Dominic Pham. Burial will immediately follow in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery, Ringtown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mary Ann’s memory to either St. Mary’s Church or Ringtown Library.

Eileen Loftus Schlegel
, 57, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, July 17th, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. 

Born in Fountain Springs, May 3, 1964, she is the daughter of Mae Jones Loftus, Ashland, and the late Gerard Loftus. She was a graduate of the North Schuylkill High School, class of 1982, and the Empire Beauty School, Pottsville. Eileen had been employed as a home health nurses aide, and as a trimmer for the Ashland Shirt Factory, Ashland. Lastly she worked as a cashier for the Boyer’s Supermarket of Ashland, and the Turkey Hill Market, Lavelle. She was a member of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Parish, Ashland, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Hose Company, Ashland. 

Preceding her in death was her father, Gerard Loftus, passing in 1992.

Son: Anthony Loftus and his wife Kimberly, Gordon

Son: Philip Schlegel and his wife Natasha, Berwick

Son: Gerard Schlegel and his Fiancé Agnes, Ashland

Son: Matthew Schlegel and his Fiance Katlyn, Ashland

Sister: Ann Marie and her husband Brian Borkoskie, Lavelle

Brother: Gerard Loftus and his wife Sharon, Leck Hill

Eight Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service, Sunday, July 25th, at 7 PM in the Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, 1323 Centre St., Ashland. Officiating will be Pastor Susan Hocking, of the Simpson United Methodist Church, Gordon. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 5 PM until service time in the funeral home.
