Bethel Man Killed in Berks County Crash Early Friday


A Bethel man died in a crash in Berks County on Friday morning.

According to Bethel Township Police, on Friday, August 6, 2021 around 1:15am, Bethel Township Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 9400 block of Lancaster Avenue (State Route 501). 

An officer with Bethel Township Police arrived on scene at approximately 1:25am to find the victim, Damion Scott Chilcote deceased as a result of the accident. 

From the investigation it was determined that Chilcote, 23, of Bethel, was driving a silver Chevrolet Cavalier southbound on Lancaster Avenue when he lost control, going off of the northbound shoulder into an embankment. 

Chilcote, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, was ejected from the vehicle and died on scene. 

Bethel Township Police were assisted by Pennsylvania State Police Hamburg and Schuylkill Haven Barracks, Berks County Coroner’s Office, Bethel Community Ambulance, Western Berks Ambulance, in addition to members of the Bethel Fire Company, Frystown Fire Company and Rehrersburg Fire Company. 

The crash remains under investigation.
