Minersville Police Charge Man with Sexually Assaulting Teen

An investigation by Minersville Police led to a man being charged with sexually assaulting a teen girl.

According to Minersville Police Patrolman Jeffrey Bowers, during the months of September and October, he investigated the alleged interactions between Michael Butler, 20, and numerous underaged females in the borough.

On Friday, October 1st, 2021, Butler was apprehended on an unrelated case and while in custody, a search warrant was obtained for an Apple iPhone, Android Cell Phone, and a Chromebook laptop.

A search of the iPhone led to the finding of 4 videos of Butler engaging in sexual contact with an underage female that was later learned to be 15 years old.

A search of the Android phone led to the finding of a video between Butler and the same underaged female discussing several past sexual encounters while they were both under the influence of controlled substances.

Police interviewed female in the videos and she told investigators that she had sex with Butler on four separate occasions at a home on Pine Street where he had been staying.

As a result of the investigation, Minersville Police charged Butler with 4 counts of felony involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, 4 counts of felony statutory sexual assault, 4 counts of felony aggravated indecent assault, 4 counts of felony sexual abuse of children involving child pornography, and 4 counts of indecent exposure.

Butler is currently locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on unrelated charges and will be video arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David Plachko on the recent charges.

Minersville Police are asking if anyone else has been victimized by Butler to contact them by calling (570) 544-6212.
