Pedestrian Struck on Route 901 Early Tuesday; Leg Amputated in Incident

A pedestrian was seriously injured when struck by a vehicle on Route 901 near Minersville on Tuesday.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the incident occurred around 5:30am near the intersection of Route 901 and East Maple Street near the King's Village in Norwegian Township.

Police say a 42 year old man from Minersville was walking across Route 901 when he was struck by a Subaru Impreza driven by a 32 year old man from Pottsville.  The Subura struck the pedestrian with the front bumper amputating the man's leg.

The pedestrian was transported by Minersville EMS to Primrose to a waiting LifeFlight helicopter and flown to Geisinger in Danville with serious injuries.

State Police say the victim underwent surgery immediately for the amputation and is now listed in stable condition. 

State Police say the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.  State Police continue to investigation.

The identity of those involved was not released.
