Carl Herman "Skip" Blankenhorn, 81, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Sunday, November 14th, at St. Luke's Hospital, Orwigsburg.

Born in Friedensburg on August 9, 1940, he was a son of the late Herman & Edith (Laubenstein) Blankenhorn.

He was married for 62 years to his wife, Carol A. (Runkle) Blankenhorn.
Skip was of the Protestant faith.

He worked most of his life at the former Walk In Shoe Company, Schuylkill Haven. Skip worked until his death as a crossing guard for the Schuylkill Haven School District. This job brought him much joy.
Skip was a member of the Rainbow Hose Co. No. 1, & the North Ward Social Club, and frequented the D&D Bar, all in Schuylkill Haven.

In addition to his wife, Carl is also survived by two daughters: Ginny, wife of Earle Kull, of Schuylkill Haven; & Tammy, wife of Donald Kistler, of Hamburg; grandchildren: Eric Yorski, husband of Brandi, Ohio, Jessica Yorski, companion of Melvin Alexander, Schuylkill Haven, Brielle Commings, Hamburg, & Tyler Kull, fiance of Lily Rucker, Hamburg, great-grandchildren: Colsten & Selah Yorski, and Zamonie, & Asia Alexander, four sisters: Marion Bartolett, of Auburn; Karen Sylvester, of St. Clair; Doris Brown, of Friedensburg; Carol Sullivan, of Schuylkill Haven, and numerous nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, Skip is also preceded in death by brothers: Marvin "Marty", Vernon "Louie", Paul, & Harold "Butch" Blankenhorn, and sisters: Fay Potts, Sharon Koch, & Emily Ney.
Services & interment will be privately held at the convenience of the family.

Jeanne Marzullo
, 84, of Mahanoy City, passed away peacefully Sunday morning with her family by her side at the home of her daughter, Marianne, of Pottsville.

Born in Gilberton, PA on February 17, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Semanco) Kish.

She was a 1954 graduate of Gilberton High School.

Jeanne worked for General Cigar, Mahanoy City; Mahanoy Area School District, and the Mahanoy City Sewer Authority as a bookkeeper for 25 years, retiring in 2004.

Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandson, Christopher and attending all of his events.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Philip J. Marzullo, in 1996, and to whom she was married 38 years; and sister, Marianne Harding.

Jeanne is survived by a daughter, Marianne Wollyung, wife of John, of Pottsville; grandson, Christopher; and several nieces and nephews

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 19th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Teresa of Calcutta Church, 600 W. Mahanoy St., Mahanoy City, with Father Gallagher officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.

Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Morea Rd. , Mahanoy City.

Shirley E. Lerch, 88, formerly of Frackville, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Schuylkill E. Norwegian Street.

She was born Dec. 11, 1932, a daughter of the late Lester and Julia (Fleetman) Yarnell.

Shirley graduated from Frackville High School and then was employed as a PBX operator at Bell Telephone until her marriage to Jim Lerch Sr. in August 1954.

Shirley was a member of Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, Frackville, JOY Class and a member of Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Lerch Sr., in 2004, her brothers, Lester Yarnell Jr. and Donald Yarnell; a sister, Marian Masser; a granddaughter, Jamie M. Haggerty.

Surviving are her children, James and his wife, Dawn, of Pine Grove, Gary and his wife, Bonnie, of Elysburg, and daughter, Felice and her husband, Jim Haggerty, of Towanda. In addition, Shirley leaves behind her grandchildren, Steven Haggerty, Lindsey Lengle, Meredith Zuloaga, David Lerch; great-grandchildren, Mercedez Haggerty, Natalie and Dorothy Zuloaga. Also surviving Shirley are her sisters, Lois Andrews, Carlisle, and Alma Derr, Frackville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Nice- Hart Funeral Home, Inc., 9 N. Lehigh Ave., Frackville. The Rev. Jeff Merwine will be officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity E.C. Church Memorial Fund, 56 N. Balliet St., Frackville, PA 17931. Burial will be held in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Frackville.

Gloria Jean Lash
, age 79, of Port Carbon, PA passed away Saturday, November 13th, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pottsville.

Born in Mollystown, PA on January 27, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Phoan W. and Josephine M. (Kleckner) Krause.

Gloria first worked for the Schuylkill Haven Box Factory and then for H.L. Miller and Son in Schuylkill Haven. She was a very loving and caring Mother, Nanny, and Grammy and loved being with her family and her dog Coco.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Walter (Red) Lash, two sons: Keith and Stacey Lash, a step-son Walter Kilraine, and a sister Joanne Schneck.

Gloria is survived by two daughters Gloria Jean Frehafer and her husband Ken and Denise Phillips, both of Pottsville; three sons: Todd Lash, Port Carbon, Craig Lash, Pottsville, and Harold Lash, Philadelphia; a step-daughter Patty DeLong and her husband James, Schuylkill Haven; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Frances Paine, Delaware, Eva Marie Kling, Williamsport, and Mary Lou Wagner, Myerstown; and nieces and nephews.

A Religious Service will be held at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home in Port Carbon at 11AM on Saturday, November 20th, with Pastor Ed Kopach officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Saturday from 9-11AM at the Funeral Home.

Interment will be held in the Charles Baber Cemetery in Pottsville.

Irene A. (Noonan) Avenoso
, 93 of Shenandoah passed away early Monday morning, November 15, 2021 at Lehigh Valley Hospital Hospital-Schuylkill East, Pottsville.

Born in Shenandoah on June 28, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel (Wyatt) Noonan.

Irene was a 1946 graduate of the former East Mahanoy Township High School.

She was a retired seamstress having been employed in the local garment industry. She was a member of the ILGWU.

Irene was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah. Prior to that, she was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where she was a member and past president of the Sacred Heart Sodality. She also was the caretaker and sacristan for the church for many years. She was a dedicated pierogy maker for Divine Mercy Parish. Irene was also a member of the Greater Shenandoah Area Senior Citizens where she was often seen working in the kitchen.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were her first husband John F. Rock on February 25, 1976 and her second husband, Edmond “Lefty” Avenoso on December 11, 2008; one brother, Joseph Noonan, Jr.; and one sister, Theresa Buckley.

Surviving are her sister, Dolores Micko of Shenandoah; her dear friend who was a great help to her, Franklin “Frank” Miller of Shenandoah; her friend, Mary Ann Pronio of Shenandoah; nieces and nephews with their families and many friends also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning, November 19, 2021 at 9:15 am in St. Casimir Church, 229 North Jardin St., Shenandoah, the sacred worship site of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, Pastor will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A visitation will be held on Friday morning in St. Casimir Church from 8:15 am until 9:15 am.

Stephen J. Rodick Jr.
, 75, of Girardville, passed away on Friday, November 12th, 2021.

Born in Shenandoah on September 9th, 1946, he was the son of the late Stephen Rodick and Rosemary Cardiff.

Steve was a veteran of the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he was stationed on the USS Enterprise where he worked as an electrician. After the service, he worked most of his career for Zapata Industries in Frackville, Pa. Steve was an avid hunter and became a life member of the Locust Valley Game Club and the Park Crest Fish and Game Club. He was a former member of the Friendship Fire Company in Frackville and was a member of the Frackville American Legion. Besides those organizations, he loved rooting for his Chicago Cubs and Washington Redskins.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diana (Fetterolf) Rodick in 2009.

He leaves behind 1 son, Joseph Stephen Rodick – Frackville, 1 daughter, Lisa Rodick Quin wife of Scott Quin – Girardville, 2 brothers, Joseph Rodick – Frackville and William Rodick – Emmaus. 2 sisters, Roseann Sisak with Alfie – Girardville and Kathleen Lorah with John – Frackville. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend graveside services with military honors on Friday, November 19th at 11am in Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs.

Richard A. Degler
, 88, of Andreas, passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2021, in his home. He was the husband of Betty (Hinnershitz) Degler. They were married on August 8, 1953 and celebrated 68 years of marriage. Prior to retiring, he ran his real estate business, Farm and Home Realty in Bally, PA for over 20 years. Born in Hamburg, PA, he was the son of the late Earl C. and Florence M. (Kauffman) Degler. He served honorably for six years in the U.S. Army with tours of duty in Ethiopia and Germany. Richard was an avid outdoorsman and he enjoyed gardening, hiking, and bird watching. He was most fond of traveling all over the world with his wife. He was preceded in death by a son Gregory, sister in-law, Nancy Degler, and a brother-in-law, Jack Peck. Surviving in addition to his wife, are a son, Gary, and his wife Angela, of Greenville, GA; daughter, Alyssa, wife of Ashfaque Chowdhury, of Oak Ridge, NC; two brothers, Dennis, and his wife Faye, of Hamburg, and Stewart, of Lititz; a sister, Marian Peck, of Broomall; two grandchildren; a great grandchild; nieces and nephews. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 3-5pm on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at the Hartman Funeral Home, 1791 West Penn Pike, Rte. 309, New Ringgold.
