Distracted Driving to Blame for Crash Involving Pottsville City Christmas Tree


A man is being charged with careless driving after crashing into the Pottsville City Christmas Tree on Tuesday evening.

According to Pottsville Police Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, on Tuesday November 30th, 2021 around 9:30pm, officers were dispatched to the 500 blk. of W. Market St., for the report of a motor vehicle accident. 

An investigation by Ptlm Chris Hamilton showed that Clayton Eberly, 24, of Allentown had been driving his Volkswagen Rabbit west on W. Market Street when he was distracted by using his cellular device and crashed into the City Christmas tree on the west end of Garfield Square. 

Police were assisted on the scene by fire and EMS. 

Eberly will be charged by Hamilton with Careless Driving.

According to sources, the Christmas Tree was knocked over and damaged in the incident and the City is currently working on getting a new tree.
