Berwick Man Faces Charges for Strangling Woman in Mahanoy Township

A man from Berwick is facing charges for allegedly strangling a woman on Wednesday evening.

According to Mahanoy Township Police, officers were dispatched to the 900 block of West Center Street around 8:20pm, Wednesday for an assault.

A woman reported to police that her daughter's boyfriend, Daniel Penles, 20, of Berwick strangled her, pulled her, and punched her.

Police reported that the victim's neck was visibly red after the incident.

Penles had left but returned while police were still on scene.

When Mahanoy Township Police Officer Parker attempted to take Penles into custody, he began to resist and fight.

After being taken into custody, Officer Parker found video footage of the incident.

Penles was charged with simple assault, strangulation, and resisting arrest and arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge Rossi.

Penles was locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on $10,000 straight cash bail.

He posted bail and was released on Thursday, April 14th, 2022.
