Frackville Basketball Tournament Raises Money for Greg Stanalonis Sr Memorial Scholarship

Now in it's third year, 10 teams competed in a street basketball tournament at the Arch Street Park in Frackville for bragging rights and to raise money for the Greg Stanalonis Sr Memorial Scholarship.

After his father's passing in April of 2019, Greg Stanalonis Jr, of Danville, and a Frackville native, started the tournament to raise money for a scholarship he created in his father's name.

Stanalonis's father was a PIAA basketball referee for 15 years and loved the game.

Thanks to donors and the tournament, the scholarship is able to give one local graduating athlete $1,000.

The 2022 recipient was Shenandoah Valley graduate, Haely Sosna.

In Saturday's tournament, players competed in a double elimination bracket that included teams as young as 9th grade to team's from outside the area.

The all day tournament came down to Re/Max of Reading and "Family Business" out of Shenandoah.  The tournament ended with Re/Max winning and taking home this year's trophy with each player on the winning team taking home an Amazon gift card.
